Battlepacks are random collections of knives, badges, camos, decorative items, and xp boosts. Mostly cosmetic items from the looks of it. You can use xp to get battlepacks and higher-level battlepacks (I assume there will be bronze/silver/gold tiers) will give you increasingly rare items. If you know how the packs work in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer, this looks to be similar.
