Well currently, Intel easily beats AMD tho they got 8 threads instead of 4, which AMD has.
That's actually useless if you aren't rendering videos etc. all day. I got an AMD myself (Phenom II X4 940, this one came out before the 955) and I'm pretty happy with it.
AMD is the so called "bang for the buck".
